figured i'd do these in a separate entry
So, various people asked my views for the following about five fictional female characters:

2 - Villains

Okay, first, my idea of favorite villains isn't the complete black hat kind--give me Snape over Voldemort, give me Spike over Angelus (okay, I'd take Angelus, how about over the Master), etc.

a. Selena Kyle aka Catwoman, both the old and new versions, but preferably the old version who knew the identity of Batman, was still a thief and yet his lover (though she's his lover in the new version, too).

b. Emma Frost aka The White Queen just because. No really. She's magnificent. (This is comic book version, not movie version)

c. Glory (from BtVS). She was petulant, bitchy, violent, and loved to shop. Pretty much a black hat, but fun!

d. Meg (from SPN). I couldn't stand her in Season 1 or when she returned at first in Season 5, but her character evolved; she started fighting alongside the good guys (okay, mostly to save her own ass but, still, demon), and she weirdly cared for Cas, and then she died horribly (see answer to #12).

e. Lilah Morgan (from AtS). She'd grind you into dust to get what she wanted, but...slowly the good in her crept out and she made Wes all darkish and glorious, and then she died horribly (see answer to #12).

3 - Superheroes

a. Barbara Gordon aka Oracle because she was so a superhero. As Batgirl, both old and new, bleh, but when she reinvented herself as the kickass hacker extraordinaire who kept the heroes of the world and definitely Gotham in the know and alive, wowsa.

b. Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler aka Robin for five seconds aka Batgirl. Here was this annoying girl in eggplant with no powers who taught herself to fight and solve crimes and then had a baby and gave it up and returned to fighting crime and eventually became Batgirl, fully sanctioned by the original and grudgingly accepted by Batman and then...(see answer to #12).

c. Rogue (comic book version). I always loved Rogue who for years couldn't touch another person and yet managed to slowly become vital to the X-Men and turn from a semi-villain to a hero. And now she can touch and she's boinking Eric which just makes me so happy because I so wrote that about twenty years ago.

d. Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat (comic book version which I'm five years behind on reading about). Here was this thirteen year old kid thrown into a "school" filled with adults and yet she managed quickly to become a beloved member of the team and now she's teaching there and still a beloved and vital member of the team. Also, she and Logan together were magnificent back in the day.

e. Rose Wilson aka The Ravager. Semi-dark and very confused character but intrinsically good and she was a Titan so I'm including her here. That would be the old version. I have no clue what they're doing with the new one except she has two eyes again. She was more interesting with only one.

10 - That I'd want to kiss

a. Astrid (from Fringe)

b. Faith (from BtVS)

c. Rogue (from the comics)

d. Claudia (from Warehouse 13)

e. Ivanova (from Bab5)

12 - Who I think deserved better endings

a. Meg (from SPN). I'm sorry, just as she was really getting interesting they killed her like they kill EVERY FREAKING WOMAN ON THE SHOW. *sigh* I really wanted to see if anything ever would have happened between her and Cas.

b. Lilah Morgan (from AtS). Redeeming herself, working with the good guys, and then suddenly she's gone. She was a great villain, a great character, and so much better for Wes than Fred.

c. Stephanie Brown aka Batgirl. Well, she didn't actually have an ending because she doesn't seem to exist in the DCNU and that pisses me off.

d. Cordelia Chase (from AtS). Girl with gumption and great fashion sense and then she's knocked up by Angel's teenage son, gives birth to an evil goddess thingie and then goes into a coma before barely sort of coming back for one day to say goodbye and then dying? *sigh*

e. Whatshername the doctor on Revolution. Interesting character with interesting angst between her and Charlie and we barely got to know her before she was one moment listening to her kids on her phone when the power came back briefly and the next she's dead. I would have loved to see her interact with Rachel!

13 - I wish had better development/writing

a. Wash (from Terra Nova). They never really developed her character and yet she was obviously important to the community, and then she died.

b. Serena (from Gossip Girl). I don't think they ever knew what they were doing with the character especially after high school ended. She was all over the place, at various jobs all over the country, flitting around the world, with this guy, with that guy, always going back to Dan, then at various universities. Caveat: I haven't seen the final season yet.

c. Victoria (from Teen Wolf). Very stereotypical bad guy, even sharp and hard with her daughter. The show develops good female characters, even bad ones like Kate, but Victoria was just blah. Might have been interesting if she hadn't killed herself and instead had become a wolf.

d. Carrie Brady (from DooL). God, she was boring. She was boring when they brought her back recently and boring when she left again.

e. Claire (on The Following). There's still hope for this character and it's not all bad, but they had her doing some really stupid things that a smart woman wouldn't have done, and yet she was well written in scenes with Joe. I dunno, here's hoping for next season.

14 - I wish had better love interest(s)

a. Astrid (from Fringe) didn't have any love interest that we knew of. She was a well developed character but we knew very little of her personal life.

b. Harley Quinn (from Batbooks). My god, she's in love with the Joker and not the kind of silly Joker from the Silver Age but the completely psychotic Joke from the 2000s. Fanon mostly has her with Ivy already, just make it so.

c. Starbuck (from BGS reboot). I didn't mind her with Apollo, but then he got married and Kara married whatshisname on the rebound pretty much (and he was a cylon). I dunno, it was just a mess. It was a well-written mess, though.

d. Garcia (from Criminal Minds). Come on, the break up with Kevin (aka Xander with two eyes) was stupid! Get them back together. They were so adorable together.

e. Emma (from OUAT). August? No and now he's a kid. Bae/Neal? No, just no. Bring back Graham!

Astrid and Claudia I get it because they're both nerd hotties and let not forget Faith and Rogue because they are reformed bad girls. Unfortunately I'm not familiarized with Babylon 5 so I've read Ivanova's page in Wikipedia and she seems cute.

Ivanova was spunky. *g* Actually, there were a lot of hints that she and another female character had a mutual attraction.

Glory (from BtVS). She was petulant, bitchy, violent, and loved to shop. Pretty much a black hat, but fun!

YES. And here I thought I was the only person in fandom who appreciated her. Granted, I'm thinking of "mainstream fandom" i.e. on the AV Club people HATED her, HATED her acting and my reaction was, huh?

I think of her this way: If early seasons BtVS Cordelia (social confidence, fashionistas), early seasons Faith (amorality "take want have") and any season Buffy (or maybe S7 Buffy), and Illyria had a love child (don't ask me how, I only know that Buffy brought the handcuffs), she would have grown up to be Glory.

Cordelia Chase (from AtS). Girl with gumption and great fashion sense and then she's knocked up by Angel's teenage son, gives birth to an evil goddess thingie and then goes into a coma before barely sort of coming back for one day to say goodbye and then dying? *sigh*

Yeah, here's the thing - every time someone says I should watch AtS I say sure, someday - but in the back of my mind is THIS shit. Do I really want to see this?
