Snowflake Day 1
Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have a lot of fics that are favorites of mine. I'm not one of those authors who can't stand to read their own stories--I do it all the time.

So I'll go with a couple fics that I like that not many have read for various reasons.

Entwined Souls, Severed Lives is actually a series, a Harry Potter series, except it's centered on an original female character, the kiss of death. I can't help it; sometimes I just have to write from a new POV. This series, the first story "Winter Lily", demanded to be written. I even spun off my own AU of an AU (NOT the first time I've done this) and in my head there are at least two others. Until I found fanfic fifteen years ago I always wrote from a "me" character's POV. My first fic had a central OFC because I didn't know better. Sometimes I still can't help myself. Lilith, the main character here, is Narcissa's sister (the series was begun before we found out Narcissa was a Black) who fell in love with Sirius as a child, broke from her dark wizarding family as he did, and was kept from prison by her father who banished her to the muggle world. Thirteen years later she and Sirius literally run into each other and she's dragged back into the wizarding world. Her father and Voldemort don't like that and marry her off to a "loyal" follower, Severus. Most of the series deals with Lilith and Severus, but there's Draco/Harry, dark Lucius/Ginny and Lucius/Hermione, Lucius/Narcissa, and Narcissa/Remus. I do occasionally write more in the series; it's not done.

The Door is a very dark Sam fic for Supernatural. Maybe it was the darkness, the horror, the incestuous rapes but very few people read it or at least commented. This is the summary: In an AU of Season 6, Dean leaves Lisa after only a month and returns to hunting. He stumbles across something too horrible to believe, ends up at the Campbell compound, and starts training his three cousins, all the while keeping a terrible secret from them. A secret hidden behind a door that he warns them never to open. I write dark fic, this is not a secret, and I know it's not a lot of people's cup of tea, but I really like this story.

A Reckoning In Hell is the most recent addition to my A Series In Hell series, mostly an AU Buffy/Angelus season 2 series where Angelus dragged Buffy into Hell through Acathla and didn't get resouled and they slowly fall in love. It's my version of Hell and Lucifer and I'm pretty sure very few people read the series in general or this fic in particular since this one is Buffy/Lucifer and the only one with actual smut. Yes, another original character, though heavily influenced by Carey's Lucifer in Vertigo Comics. The series does have a few ardent supporters who I love dearly for sticking with my weirdness.

I have noticed over the decade and a half of writing fanfic that fewer and fewer people seem to read my stories and that may be due to where I'm posting. When I started out, LJ, DW, A03, even yahoogroups and its predecessors didn't exist, nor did fanfiction.net The number of authors was miniscule compared to now and everything you wanted to read was in just a few places.

Once I stopped posting on LJ and moved fics to DW, the number of readers plummeted. I don't facebook or tweet or tumblr. I have started loading some stories on A03 and will probably continue to do so since a recent fic posted there has more hits than all the other sixty or so fics I have there combined. And I do still maintain my own website, though it's two years out of date right now, something I plan to fix soon.

Anyway, I learned a long, long time ago not to write for feedback and to try not to want it. If I love my stories, I'm happy enough, and I do understand why some of my fics aren't popular either due to original characters, rape/noncon, or just general oddness. I often write weird pairings--hell, the only OTP I have is Chloe/Lionel from Smallville, and I write Spike/Joyce from BtVS and Sansa/Tyrion from GoT. Also, my current great love is Peter/Stiles from Teen Wolf. *g* Sometimes I put myself into this situation.

Now, to be contrary, I'm going to list some fics I think define me as a creator, in the fandoms I've written the most in, and I'd love to hear your opinions on this.

Buffydom: No surprise here, The End in TEAOW&S (that's just chapter 1). I'm guessing that those who've been around a while would consider this series my defining moment in all fandoms. I'm particularly proud of the final fic in the main series. I'd be particularly proud of the current fic in the series if I could get off my ass and finish it.

Supernatural: Lay Your Weary Head To Rest which was written for the Cas/Dean big bang and I'm insanely proud of it. Dean's broken, literally, by the finale battle with Lucifer and Cas becomes human out of love for him and to take care of him, plus Ben is the most awesome son ever, dealing with two gay dads, and Gabriel pops up to annoy Sam occasionally. All set in the boys (and my) home town.

DC Comics: Bringing Him Home which is my twist on 'what if Dick had been the one "killed" by the Joker instead of Jason and come back all dark and broken and yet still obsessed with Tim'? fic which includes a version of Alfred that actually won me an award for the first time in over a decade. It's one of my few fics on fanfiction.net and still gets people favoriting it over five years later.

Smallville: Dark Night, one of the first Chloe/Lionel fics I wrote, set during the Zod episode where Lionel rescues Chloe. It got me started on my OTP.

I've written in a couple dozen other fandoms, some just one fic, others ten to twenty or so, but those are the biggest. Who knows if Teen Wolf will ever equal any of the above in numbers of fics, but I can tell you I'm insanely happy with the one fic I've written for the fandom.

I was trolling AO3 and ran across this short Xander piece -- inventive, original, very beautifully written. Thought you might like it.

I've tried to read your fics on DW, but for some reason when I look at your page, it's blank for me. I'll click on the link, and sometimes I'll see a brief glimpse of words, and then it goes blank. I noticed it back when you posted that Slade/Dick fic where he makes a wish and wakes up in an altered reality.

I don't know what's wrong. D:

We both know how much I love your TEAOW&S series. I long for more of it.

I really miss the old storys and authors, the amount of time i used to spend reading stories i felt like i would never be able to read them all... and silly naive me thought that they would always be there to re-read so i never really saved copies of anything. I did find a few floppy disc's when i moved a couple of years ago with 'fav buffy/angel storys written on them, and i cursed at not being able to access them and for not being just a tad more thorough and actually writing the author/storys names on the front..... as tbh with so many authors i loved no longer posting and websites gone i've forgotten them and it's only when some one like yourself mentions a authors name a cog in my brain moves and i go off on a little search.
So thank you tres much for the links!
